eCOGRA (eCommerce and Online Gaming Regulation and Assurance), the independent standards body watching over the online gambling industry is conducting an extensive study to discover the driving force behind those who engage in online gambling. eCOGRA’s survey is to be conducted in cooperation with the University of Nevada and Nottingham Trent University. 20 000 online gamblers from various countries around the world will be interviewed with the aim of building a profile of the wants, attitudes, behaviors, and needs of those who engage in online gambling.
eCOGRA aims to enhance the safety and security of the online gambling industry, and has attracted much media attention since its inception. The survey of the online gambling community will focus mainly on the issues that eCOGRA promotes: fair gaming, safe online gambling practices, standards in customer service and protection of gamers. eCOGRA hopes that the survey will ultimately improve the image and credibility of the online gambling industry.
The survey of the online gambling industry, which is already open, is conducted as an internet survey. Online gamblers can sign up and participate in the survey through various portals and websites. In fact, eighty five websites have offered to host the online gambling survey. Once eCOGRA has reached its target of 20 000 respondents it will analyze the results with the help of researchers from Nottingham Trent University (for European and Asian gamblers) and the University of Nevada (for US gamblers). The results of the survey will be published in early 2007, in the form of a Global Gambling Report.
