Wireless gambling devices have been approved in Nevada, but the technology is not quite ready. Now that the bill has been approved, the next question is what form this gambling gadget will take.
Wireless hand-held gambling devices were finally approved by the state’s legislature this week. After two years in processing, this bill means that visitors to casinos would be able to walk around the complex and place bets and bids while doing other things – literally gambling on the go. The guests at the resorts would be able to partake in gambling while lying at the pool or when waiting for their lunch to be served. Sounds great, right? But the problem now lies in what format the hand-held gadgets would take.
The technology companies, their legal advisors and the gambling regulators all agreed that this was the start of something wonderful, but that there was still much work needed to be done. Many casinos will find the technology of mobile gambling very attractive to them, but until something solid can be presented to them, some ideas need to be crystallized. The hand-held gambling devices would include firewalls so they cannot be used outside of public areas, such as hotel rooms, or outside the boundaries of a particular hotel-casino. Also, strict measures would be taken to ensure the devices are not used by minors.
Mobile gambling is the hottest new craze in the casinos and gaming industry. Technology has been in the pipeline to fully implement this craze and this may take many forms. There is already mobile gambling available on cell phones, but the held-held devices for the hotels’ complex is another phase altogether.
